High Performance in Small Space Living
This backyard cabin demonstrates that increasing density on a single family lot and sustainable design can go hand in hand. The 42 m2 ADU is designed to maximize passive solar gain and optimize energy efficiency, with no gas connection to the cabin. The cabin features 160mm of exterior woodfibre insulation, hemp wool cavity insulation, PHIUS certified windows, an HRV, and radiant in floor heat powered by an electric combi boiler.
The interior is finished with plywood walls and furnished with custom built in bunk beds and ash slat details that delineate space while optimizing usable space and storage. This exciting cabin is a showcase of passive house design principles and beautiful small space living.
