Energy Efficient Upgrades Coming Up!

This innovative retrofit project led by HSS Design Build transforms a modular home by adding an additional story, enhancing its functionality and aesthetic appeal. The upgrades focus on improving the building envelope, ensuring superior energy efficiency and comfort.

The upgrades include the addition of more insulation, specifically wood fiber insulation, which not only enhances thermal performance but also contributes to a healthier indoor environment. A continuous air barrier is also implemented, minimizing air leakage and further improving energy efficiency.

For heating and cooling, an air-to-water heat pump is installed, providing efficient and environmentally friendly temperature control throughout the home. This system helps reduce energy consumption and operating costs.

To promote sustainability and enhance indoor air quality, complete wood finishes are used throughout the retrofit. Wood is a renewable material that adds warmth and character to the interior spaces, while also acting as a hygroscope, regulating humidity levels for a more comfortable living environment.

By minimizing waste generation and maximizing material efficiency, this project aligns with principles of sustainable construction and environmental stewardship.
