Green Buildings Open House - Come see us!

You’re invited to join the Biosphere Institute’s Green Buildings Open House Tour. The Tour is self-guided and has stops all over Alberta, but right here in the Bow Valley, three stops relate to HSS projects, past and present! Come check out our projects and learn more about the sustainable design and construction strategies we’re using. Please note that in Banff and Van Horn, these are active construction sites and require closed-toed shoes (steel toed preferred if possible). In Banff, sign in and review of safety information is mandatory.

Banff Recreation Grounds Pavilion

The Banff Pavilion project will be certified as a Passive House Low Energy Building and Rick Hansen Barrier-Free.

Larch Deep Energy Retrofit

This Deep Energy Retrofit was completed in August of 2022 and recently received the WoodWorks! Prairie Wood Design Award for Residential construction.

Homesteads Net Zero Passive House

Go and see Kim Walton of Bow Crow Design (architectural designer of this home) and the wonderful homeowner at the site of this new-build Passive House project. HSS is building this residence, which will be certified by PHIUS as Passive House + Net Zero. This home features pre-fabricated elements by Collective Carpentry too!
